Nearly five decades of Southern California yacht care. Two generations of ownership, one standard. No flashy marketing. Just work done right, by people who mean it.
Our Story
Water Works started the way the best companies do, with someone who couldn't stay away from the water. The founder was born and raised in Southern California, a lifelong surfer, sailor, and swimmer who turned his connection to the ocean into a livelihood. In 1977, he launched Water Works Yacht Services out of the harbors he'd grown up in, offering underwater hull maintenance to boat owners he knew by name.
Over the next four decades, Water Works became one of the most recognized names in underwater yacht maintenance across Southern California. From Dana Point to San Pedro, the company built its reputation the old-fashioned way, by showing up, doing the work right, and taking care of people's boats like they mattered. Because they did. That consistency turned first-time clients into lifelong customers, and word of mouth did the rest.
In 2016, new ownership took the helm. The company didn't change direction, it doubled down on the same values that built it. Same harbors. Same standards. Same commitment to doing what you say you're going to do. What changed was the energy. A renewed focus on accountability, on building real relationships with every client, and on raising the bar for what underwater maintenance should look like.
Today, Water Works is the company that puts the shopping cart back. Not because anyone's watching, but because that's the standard. Nearly five decades of continuous service across Southern California's harbors, built on a foundation that two generations of ownership have refused to compromise. The boats change. The owners change. The commitment doesn't.
“I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came.”
— John F. Kennedy
Our Philosophy
Trust is built through consistency. Same people, same standard, every time. Water Works runs on that principle. Your boat is assigned to a specific diver who learns its quirks, tracks its condition, and catches small problems before they turn into expensive ones. It isn't a staffing convenience. It's a philosophy, refined over nearly fifty years on Southern California's waters and held to the same standard under both generations of ownership.
What 49 Years Has Taught Us
No corporate values on a poster. Five standards we actually run the company by.
Every time. On schedule. No excuses. This is the baseline, not the aspiration.
If we quote you a price, that's the price. If we say Tuesday, it's Tuesday.
To the owner, it's more than a boat. It's freedom, family time, a lifetime of memories on the water.
CPDA certified and BMP compliant. We use the least abrasive methods we can because the ocean gave us this livelihood and we owe it respect.
Pass the craft forward. Train divers the way the best in this trade were trained, by showing them the standard and holding them to it.
Reputation isn't inherited, it's earned on every dive, every cleaning, every interaction. 49 years of trust doesn't mean we coast. It means every boat that goes back in the water is proof we still deserve it.
Certifications & Standards
We invest in training and certification because our work requires it, and because the health of Southern California's harbors depends on divers who know what they're doing.
CPDA membership is not a logo on a website. It means our divers follow the highest industry standards for underwater hull cleaning. Training, technique, and best practices, reviewed and maintained year after year.
CPDA MemberBMP compliance means every cleaning protects both your vessel and the marine environment. We meet LA County hull cleaning ordinance requirements and use the least abrasive methods available on every job.
